About Us

This year, the conference theme is

MIGRANTS AND IMMIGRANTS: MOVEMENTS OF A GLOBAL PROMISE

The Spanish Undergraduate Research (SUR) Conference, started at the University of South Dakota in Spring 2013. It was hosted at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa in 2014, and South Dakota State University at Brookings, SD was the host for the 2015 event. In 2016, SUR will take place at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

The conference seeks to enhance our knowledge and understanding of the Spanish-speaking world’s history, cultures, and perspectives, and to provide undergraduate students with a venue where they can disseminate research in a language other than English.

Last year, the conference opened its doors to special panels in French and German, and given the region's history, this year the organizing committee invites presentations in Scandinavian and Native American languages as well. Thus, we welcome presentations in Spanish, French, German, Native American Languages , and Scandinavian languages.

This conference concludes with an interdisciplinary keynote speaker that will appeal to students in the fields of English, French, German, Scandinavian, and Native American Languages, as well as the fields of Geography, History, Political Sciences, Anthropology, and Sociology, in addition to the original Spanish Language and Literatures. More information about the keynote speaker will be available soon!
